Indoor pool at Tillsonburg Community Centre will reopen March 10

Good news! The indoor pool at the Tillsonburg Community Centre passed two important inspections earlier this week greenlighting the facility to reopen to the public on Monday, March 10 at 8:30 a.m.

“We passed both the occupancy inspection and the health inspection so now we can get staff back in the pool and training,” explains Julie Dawley, Recreation Programs & Services Manager.

The first week of pool operations will include drop-in water fitness classes (Aqua Fit, Aqua Jogging, Aqua Cycling), preschool playtime, as well as adult and community swims.

“We’ll ease back into things during that first week and then start the new session of swimming lessons on March 17,” says Dawley.

Patrons with mobility challenges will appreciate the new interior ramp into the pool basin.

The existing men’s and women’s changerooms/showers have been fully renovated and new universal change rooms added.

“Universal change rooms may be used by people of any gender and are designed with caregiving and accessibility needs in mind,” says Andrea Greenway, Director of Recreation Culture and Parks.

While universal change rooms are inclusive space, changing in or out of a swimsuit should only be done in the dedicated changing cubicles.

“The goal of the renovation was to enhance accessibility and make the aquatics wing as welcoming and barrier-free as possible,” says Greenway.

There are a few areas, however, that aren’t quite finished yet.

“At the new South Entrance, there is an elevator to the second floor viewing area that must have a TSSA inspection before we can use it,” says Greenway. “Unfortunately, we were not able to get that booked prior to opening.”

Other finishing touches, including a new customer service desk and new lobby furnishings, will also be added in the coming weeks.

“It will take us a while yet to get everything just right, but the bulk of the work is done, and the pool is ready, so it’s time to take the plunge,” says Greenway.
