Volunteers ready trails for the season

Volunteers at the Trail Care and Clean Up event in Tillsonburg on May 24, 2025.

The trails in Tillsonburg are looking better than ever this week thanks to the hard work of volunteers and a grant from 2025 Trail Care program, supported by Trans Canada Trail.

"We hosted a Trail Care and Clean Up Day on Saturday, May 24," explains Andrea Greenway, director of Recreation, Culture and Parks. "Volunteers from the community came out ready to work with us to help make sure the trails are in peak condition for the spring and summer season."

Activities during the event included litter removal and the identification of problem spots in need of repair.

"Events like this are an important part of community building," says Mayor Deb Gilvesy. "I want to thank staff for organizing the event, and of course, the volunteers who enthusiastically participated."

Refreshments for the event were generously donated by Sobeys Tillsonburg.

Trans Canada Trail advocates for, stewards and champions Canada’s nationwide trail system. The program is aimed at promoting volunteerism along the Trail and supporting volunteer-led projects as trail groups host activities including volunteer training and appreciation, trail clean up and repairs, tree planting, and other minor maintenance projects.

“We are fortunate to work with so many passionate volunteers in every province and territory,” says Stacey Dakin, Chief Program Officer of Trans Canada Trail. “These people and groups devote so much time and effort to helping their communities by taking care of their section of the Trans Canada Trail. The incredible work they do locally is what keeps our nationwide trail system strong, and we are happy to offer them support through the Trail Care program and our other funding initiatives.”

The Town of Tillsonburg is proud to be part of this national effort to encourage community volunteerism on the Trans Canada Trail and invites community members to join in the effort. To learn more about the Trans Canada Trail, visit: tctrail.ca.
