Town of Tillsonburg announces corporate office relocation
After 127 years on Broadway, the Town of Tillsonburg’s corporate offices are moving.
“Relocating the corporate offices to temporary facilities at 51 and 55 Brock Street E., is projected to allow the Town to save on leasing costs and reinvest around $450,000 towards moving forward with plans for a more accessible, streamlined Town Hall,” says Mayor Deb Gilvesy.
“Council has been looking at numerous options for a new consolidated Town Hall over the last several years,” she explains. “After careful analysis, expanding the current Customer Service building at 10 Lisgar Avenue is the most efficient and economical path forward,” she says.
“Giving up our space at the Town Centre is the first step in our long journey to offering all public-facing services from one central facility,” says CAO Kyle Pratt.
“The current corporate offices are no longer meeting the Town’s needs. As with the renovations currently happening at the Tillsonburg Community Centre, we’ll need to endure some short-term pain for long term gain,” says Gilvesy
The date for the move to Brock Street hasn’t been finalized, but Pratt says it will occur before year end, and possibly as soon as this fall.
“We’re going to do our best to minimize any disruption in services to the public,” he says, noting that the Customer Service Centre will continue to offer face-to-face services for residents and customers. “Tax inquiries, utility payments and building and bylaw matters will be unaffected by the move.”
The Town’s original purpose-built Town Hall was demolished in the late 1970s as part of a major downtown redevelopment project. The municipality moved into its current office space at 200 Broadway, on the second floor of the Tillsonburg Town Centre mall, in 1980.
