VIBE Youth Drop-In Program

Are you 14-18 years old in Oxford County looking for a space that’s FREE to attend? How about a space where you can show up as your authentic self, without fear of judgment?

The Town of Tillsonburg presents VIBE. This youth social space will run Thursdays, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the library (2 Library Lane). There will be a mix of free time and optional structured programs every week. Plus FREE snacks/meals!

The vision is for the program to be entirely shaped by the youth who attend, so join us and let us know what kinds of activities and experiences you’d like to see.

 

Zoning Bylaw Review

A comprehensive review of the Zoning By-law is currently underway in Tillsonburg. The review will look at all property uses including residential, commercial, industrial and institutional to ensure the new by-law is consistent with current legislation, policy and trends.

Fall Water System Maintenance

The Town of Tillsonburg will be conducting water system maintenance in the eastern half of Tillsonburg from September to November. Flushing will take place Monday to Friday (7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) in the following areas:

September 30-October 4
Areas south of North Street and north of Concession Street, between Broadway and Tillson Avenue

October 7-11
Areas east of Tillson Ave, between Beckett Boulevard and Concession Street East

October 14-18
Areas south of Concession Street and north of Bloomer Street/Oxford Street; between Broadway and West Town Line

October 28-November 1
Areas south of Simcoe Street and east of Bloomer Street

Residents may notice temporary cloudy or discoloured water when watermain flushing occurs.

Do not do laundry during the day if your area is being flushed. You can help clear your line of discoloured water by simply turning on the cold water after flushing occurs. Run tap until water runs clear.

Evening Yoga

With a focus on strength, balance and flexibility, this class uses a variety of yoga poses, stretching principles and movements combined with breathing and relaxation techniques. Movements and poses are beginner to intermediate, with modifications at all levels.

20/20/20 Fitness

Mix up your routine with three workouts in one! Enjoy a challenging workout with three 20-minute intervals each of different exercises such as cardio, strength training, core work, yoga, boxing, and more.

$9.00 per visit or by pass/membership

Pilates

Pilates is an exercise system that focuses on breathing, core conditioning and body awareness to improve muscle tone, posture and flexibility. This class is suitable for all fitness levels.

Pursuing Play: Women’s Leisure in Small-Town Ontario 1870-1914

Join professor and author Rebecca Beausaert for the Tillsonburg launch of Pursuing Play: Women’s Leisure in Small-Town Ontario, 1870–1914 (University of Manitoba Press). The new book draws on diaries, letters, and newspapers to investigate women’s recreational activities at the turn of the century. Learn about pastimes like “armchair travelling,” gambling, Spinster Conventions and more. The event will feature a reading, book signing, and refreshments.

Rebecca Beausaert is an adjunct professor in the Department of History, University of Guelph, and co-founder and co-director of the “What Canada Ate” website.  She was a summer research assistant at Annandale NHS from 2003-2006.
