Lake Lisgar Waterpark building to be renovated

Tillsonburg receives $750,000 from the Government of Canada to upgrade Lake Lisgar Waterpark building

New barrier-free washrooms, showers and changeroom facilities are just some of the improvements visitors to Lake Lisgar Waterpark can expect to see following the announcement of a $750,000 non-repayable contribution from the Government of Canada through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) as part of the Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF).

“Upgrades at the Waterpark are certainly needed, and we appreciate FedDev Ontario partnering with us in that effort. This project will undoubtedly make the facility more functional and improve the overall visitor experience,” says Mayor of Tillsonburg, Deb Gilvesy.

“Enhanced facilities will ensure that everyone can take advantage of the Lake Lisgar Waterpark. This investment will allow the Waterpark to welcome more visitors from Tillsonburg and the surrounding communities,” said the Honorable Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario. “Our government is happy to invest in local parks that attract new visitors and enhance our communities for the long-term”.

The Town of Tillsonburg is also investing $450,000 in the project for a total renovation budget of $1.2 million.

Located in Tillsonburg’s Memorial Park, Lake Lisgar Waterpark typically welcomes more than 15,000 guests each summer season. Outdoor amenities at the park include a giant twister waterslide, beach entry pool and a variety of splash features. Entry to the facility is through a 3,600-square-foot building.

“The interior of the existing building will be reconfigured to include improved barrier-free family changerooms, improved accessible washrooms and a renovated staff/first aid area,” explains Julie Columbus, Director of Recreation, Culture and Parks. “There will also be upgrades to the exterior of the building including a new entrance area and a colourful new mural.”

Design and consulting on the project has been awarded to A+Link Architects. Tillsonburg-based PK Construction has been selected as the general contractor.

Work on the project is expected to begin shortly, in hopes of minimal disruption to the summer season.

“The construction sector is still experiencing supply chain issues coming out of the pandemic, but we’re going to do what we can to keep the project on track,” Columbus adds.

“The Community Strategic Plan speaks about the need to rehabilitate our recreational facilities and bring them up to modern standards,” says Kyle Pratt, Chief Administrative Officer. “The waterpark continues to be an important tourism asset in the community and is especially relevant to families throughout the region with young children.”

Updates on the project’s progress will be posted to the Town’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/TillsonburgON).
