Boil Water Advisory Ended

A Boil Water Advisory issued in Tillsonburg on October 9 has ended. The advisory was rescinded by the Southwestern Public Health Medical Officer of Health on October 11 at 6:30 p.m.

“Two additional sets of water quality tests were completed—each 24 hours apart--and neither one revealed any bacteria in the water,” explains Mayor Deb Gilvesy. “The chlorination system has been found to be in proper working order and residual chlorine levels are adequate—all of which is excellent news.”

As an added precaution, however, Southwestern Public Health is recommending that residents/businesses located between Broadway and Tillson Ave., from North Street E. to Oxford Street, take steps to clear their water lines of any standing water prior to use:

  • Run cold water faucets for 5 minutes before using the water
  • Run drinking fountains for 5 minutes before using the water
  • Flush all garden hoses by running cold water through them for 1 minute
  • Run water softeners through a regeneration cycle
  • Drain and refill hot water heaters set below 45oC (normal setting is 60oC)
