Environmental Benefits
Phase One of the VIP lands had historically been used as farmland, but the re-development plans for the property included consideration of various environmental factors, including stormwater management for water quality improvements for the drainage area. A five acre, naturalized storm water pond provides enhanced quality control measures and will ensure that all of the storm water draining from the larger industrial area is enhanced prior to draining into the Otter Creek Watershed - a significant nature amenity area.
Additionally, the Town is collaborating with the Long Point Region Conservation Authority to identify opportunities within the Innovation Park to replant native tree species in order to enhance the Town’s forest cover and provide additional environmental benefits.
Development of individual sites is in accordance with the Town’s Site Plan Approval bylaw, which has requirements for landscaping and natural amenities within each development.
